There’s a Firefox functionality that I have always wondered about and also wished for: it is the “Open With” function that you can use in the Internet Explorer’s download manager, but not in Firefox’s.
So everyone who has used both browsers to download and fie, might have noticed that with IE you can download a file to your Temporary folder, run the program, or document, or whatever that is, and deleted automatically afterwards, and I always wanted this feature in Firefox.

Luckily, I discovered an extension called OpenDownload, that does exactly what I wished for: it integrates the “Open With” functionality in Firefox.
There’s not much to say about it, but I am going to show how it works anyway.
After you install OpenDownload, from now on every time you download something, a new voice will come up in the manager, which will let you decide what application should open that particular file.
For example, let’s say I am downloading a video, here is what I can do:

- Save it to my hard drive as I would normally do, and then open it with my favorite player.
- Use some extension, for example DownloadThemAll! to get it faster, and open it manually after the download is finished.
- Use OpenDownload, selecting the player I like the most so that the video will open automatically after it has been downloaded in my Temp folder.
